Vergne hits back at Horner comments
Jean-Eric Vergne has responded to Christian Horner's comments that he is not ready for a seat at Red Bull next season.
Horner said the race to replace Mark Webber in 2014 is between Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Raikkonen, with Vergne ruled out of the running because he is "six months behind Daniel in terms of Formula One experience". However, when asked by ESPN for his thoughts on those comments, Vergne replied: "I get the six months from now until December, so …"
Despite the lack of opportunity to be promoted, Vergne added that he would not be disappointed to have another year with Toro Rosso, saying the new regulations could help the team fight further up the grid.
"To be honest I would be really happy to stay with Toro Rosso next year. Of course it would be a dream to go and drive for Red Bull Racing, but I really believe in the team and especially the people working in the team.
"They are putting a lot of effort in to next year's car and I really believe that we can have a good season next year and that the car will be much better than the one that we have now. Everybody will restart from zero, so we have all of our chances to be a better team."
