Sebastian Vettel has played down the significance of Red Bull's lap times at testing in Jerez and said that it will show its true pace in Barcelona.
Vettel topped the timesheets on the first day of this week's test and was third fastest after Thursday's damp running. However, he said that the mixed conditions meant that there was no way of telling where he was in relation to his competitors and added that a number of updates for the final test in Barcelona should mean the car goes even faster.
"Wednesday was not such a remarkable situation because the chicane was always damp, and with the wind as well, it wasn't so consistent," Vettel told the official Formula One website. "It's true we did a couple of good runs, but it's hard to know what fuel loads the others were carrying. Next week in Barcelona we expect to improve the car even more - how much we succeed, we will see. I have read that Mercedes and McLaren will bring really big updates, so let's wait and see next week."
He also said that having a wet test was not all bad, as the slippery surface had helped him hone his skills after a long period of time out of the cockpit since the last grand prix.
"These conditions are very good for your reactions," Vettel said. "It is so slippery out there that you have to be able to react very fast, and I think that after three months of not driving, this is no bad thing as it helps get your reactions back up to speed."
