Horner confident Newey will stay
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is confident Ferrari will not be able to lure away his star designer Adrian Newey.
Speculation over the Spanish Grand Prix weekend suggested Ferrari would make a bid to bring Newey to Maranello as the Italian team restructures itself under new boss Marco Mattiacci. Similar rumours have circulated the paddock in recent years and Horner still believes Newey is still happy where he is.
"It is an annual thing that there is speculation about Adrian's future but he has made his feelings clear to me about the team," he was quoted by the Guardian. "He has paternal feelings towards the team and he is much more involved than he has been, and he enjoys the environment he works in. You can understand why Ferrari would be looking. Adrian has always enjoyed a challenge."
However, when Newey was questioned about a move after Sunday's race he did not offer a straight denial.
"There's always rumours, isn't there?" he told Sky Sports. "It's the silly season. We're all under contract, so at some point I've got to think about the future, but my focus at the moment is trying to get back on top of those silver cars."
When Horner was asked about the length of time remaining on Newey's contract, he dodged the question, saying: "That's like asking a lady about her age!"
