Button vows to 'hurt' himself after Sepang shocker
Jenson Button has promised to punish himself for his bad performance at the Malaysian Grand Prix by taking part in the gruelling Lavaman Waikoloa triathlon in Hawaii.
Button started from second on the grid at Sepang but destroyed his chances of a decent result by damaging his front wing against Narain Karthikeyan's HRT on lap 15. He went on to make five pit stops in total after struggling to manage degradation of his front tyres.
Speaking to the British press after the race, he promised to make himself suffer by way of apology to his team.
"I am going to hurt myself because I deserve the pain after this race," he said. "I will make sure I hurt myself extra for such a bad day."
However, he also saw some upsides to the topsy-turvy Malaysian Grand Prix, which left him third in the drivers' standings.
"Hopefully my bad race of the year has gone -- and I am still only ten points off the leader. That's not a worry," Button said. "It's not bad, really, considering what kind of a race I had, but there are still 18 races to go and there is a lot of action still to come."
