Jenson Button 'overwhelmed' by McLaren hunger
Jenson Button says that he has never before been a part of a team so hungry to keep on developing.
Button, who maintained his challenge for a second successive drivers' title by following home team-mate Lewis Hamilton in Turkey, said that he is 'overwhelmed' by the work of McLaren this season.
"I'm really overwhelmed by how much this team can just keep developing," said Button ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. "You just can't believe how hungry this team is: when I joined back in January, I was really struck by just how much we were pushing ahead of the launch, then during testing. But we're now into an incredibly tough series of races, and we're still bringing these huge new development parts to the track, and we're bringing enough parts for both Lewis and myself - it's awesome.
"It makes you realise why Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is so strong - there's just no let-up. I've never known a team be so hungry to go racing. And, like I say, it's just great to be part of."
Despite McLaren's 1-2 in Turkey, Button is well aware that the team benefitted from Red Bull's collision during the race and that there is still work to be done to match their qualifying pace.
"Qualifying pace is still something that we're not entirely satisfied with, but we're pleased that we do appear to have closed the gap to Red Bull," said Button. "Certainly, if you look at our relative pace in Barcelona, and compare it with Istanbul, then we do seem to be closer.
"It's going to be interesting to see how Canada plays out. It's an extremely fast circuit, but it isn't a place that tolerates even the slightest mistake - because of the proximity of the concrete walls.
"The track configuration should suit the MP4-25, it's got a couple of slowish corners that lead onto long straights, so we should be able to use the combination of the Mercedes-Benz engine and our aero package to be competitive in both qualifying and the race."
