McLaren's rear wing will be inspected by the FIA's technical delegate Charlie Whiting on Friday, after Red Bull's Christian Horner raised concerns over its legality.

Horner said the wing had caused "a bit of a fuss" and that his team wanted clarification over the design in order to produce its own version if it is legal. Yesterday a McLaren spokeswoman said her team had no reason to believe the wing wasn't legal and team principal Martin Whitmarsh has now revealed he consulted Whiting during the design process.

"The wing is different and innovative, yes," Whitmarsh told the Daily Telegraph. "But we have been in contact with Charlie over a period of several months to check that it complies with regulations. We have been assured that it does."

An FIA spokesman said: "We have no concerns with it [the wing], but we have been invited by the team to view the car so Charlie is going down to have a look." Ferrari, which is also keen to gain clarification, has confirmed it will take no further action if Whiting deems the concept to be legal.
