We got it wrong, admits Button
A frustrated Jenson Button said that his team got it wrong after the McLaren driver slithered off the circuit and failed to make it to the second qualifying session.
"We got it wrong, basically," said Button. "We thought that first rain storm was it and that nothing else was coming - obviously it was the wrong thing to do. My first lap on Inters felt okay. The thing is, you get no real warning; the first sector of the lap was quite dry, then you get to the fast left-right and it's really wet.
"I just aquaplaned off and got stuck in the gravel. I couldn't do anything about it. I just hope I haven't damaged anything on the car because I was sat in the gravel with the engine running for some time, hoping to get pulled out but obviously didn't, so it's very disappointing."
On the positive side for Button, Ferrari also made the wrong call and the Englishman will line up 17th on the grid, ahead of both Ferraris and team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who lines up between Alonso and Massa in 20th.
"On the way back you obviously feel very awful, having gone off the circuit. We made the wrong call, as Ferrari did, and we paid for it. But it turned out okay for me, I was lucky that I got a lap in really, when other people were struggling with the conditions. It could be worse."
