If the Korean Grand Prix was a controversial addition to an increasingly packed Formula One calendar, then the selection of a location three hours from the nearest major city verged on the insane. Enthusiasts insist that given time this will become a must-see event.
Construction of the $264million Korean International Circuit - inevitably designed nu Hermann Tilke - was dogged with problems throughout, and the inaugural grand prix in October 2010 was only confirmed as going ahead less than a fortnight before it was due. The indications were the venue would be good, but the handling of the overall project verged on the disgraceful.
