No major updates, says Newey
Rivals 'overestimate' blown diffuser benefits - Horner
Silverstone 'important' for McLaren
- Red Bull
Red Bull technical chief Adrian Newey says there will be no major upgrades for the team at the British Grand Prix.
Rival McLaren is planning to introduce its own version of Red Bull's successful exhaust-blown diffuser at Silverstone but Newey insisted his team will only bring minor changes.
"We won't have any large changes for the car at Silverstone, mainly small evolutionary changes to the front and rear wings," said Newey. "We did make some revisions for Valencia with a new diffuser and updated F-duct which all worked well, the team worked incredibly hard and Sebastian drove a great race."
One thing both teams will have to adapt to, however, is learning the vagaries of a brand new Silverstone circuit layout when cars take to the track for Friday's practice sessions. And from what Newey has seen of it, he is looking forward to the challenge.
"We look forward to trying the new section of the circuit in anger for the first time. Like all the other teams we received the plan view map which we have simulated, but not until we actually run will we be able to assess details such as bumps and grip changes.
"It looks good and from my experience at Silverstone's MotoGP round a week ago, the riders loved it."
Despite the nature of Red Bull's victory in Valencia, team boss Christian Horner said it would be difficult to predict what happens at Silverstone.
"Let's wait and see how we go," said Horner. "Theoretically Valencia was McLaren territory and we performed very well. Silverstone is a track that both drivers enjoy and hopefully the next couple of events should come back a bit more our way.
"But we are looking forward to it. It is a track that should hopefully suit our car. We had a great race there last year, it will be difficult to top that but we take a lot of satisfaction out of this race win, at a track that arguably we should not be strong at."
