Sebastian Vettel is not expecting to have it all his own way at this weekend's British Grand Prix and once again expects Mercedes to be a prime contender for qualifying.

Vettel has extended his lead in the championship over the last two races and won last time out in Canada, making him one of the favourites to take victory in Silverstone. However, he does not think he will have it all his own way in Britain and reckons Mercedes will once again be the team to beat in qualifying.

"Surely there will be competition and I'm looking forward to that," he said. "I think it will be tight despite the fact that it's a long circuit, but usually cars are within a couple of tenths around here. I haven't really seen what the others did but Mercedes looked very strong on one lap, but maybe that isn't a surprise. We tried to do a little bit of both quali and race prep and now we need to look into it."

Tyre degradation will be a key factor in Sunday's race at the high-speed Silverstone, but Vettel believes warmer temperatures on race day will make things easier for all the teams.

"If it's warmer it should be better," he said. "It's quite tough for the tyres when it's cool like today. Sunday should be sunny, or so I was told, but we'll see. I think at this stage it doesn't really matter and we have to deal with what we have and go from there."
