Fernando Alonso has hailed the 2010 season as his best yet despite winning back-to-back titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006.

The Spaniard, who joined Ferrari from Renault for the 2010 season, goes into the remaining three races 14 points adrift of championship leader Mark Webber after a strong finish to the year.

"I think we've had up and downs during the season, but it's been a great 2010 championship," said Alonso on Thursday. "Driving for a new team, I've had a great integration at Ferrari from day one, so it has been a best year in my career so far, with a great experience.

"I'm very happy so now in the last three races we will try to do our best to arrive in a position to fight for the championship in Abu Dhabi. We came back, we made some good steps in the last five/six grands prix so it should be same in the last few races, with some better circuits and some worse circuits for all of us."

Although Alonso remains in with a chance of joining an elite band of men to have won three drivers' titles, he said it would not be a major disappointment if he did not win the title this year.

"It is not finished so we will see how it ends this year, but in terms of happiness, in terms of motivation, driving, the team itself, it is the best one, so obviously it would be nice to become champion this year but if we cannot do it I will have great, great memories of 2010 anyway."
