Profile

Thought by many to have had even more talent than his brother Pedro, Ricardo qualified an astonishing second on the grid at his first grand prix, at Monza, when he was just 19 years old. Ferrari signed him for 1962, but he did not drive in every race. Angry that Ferrari did not enter the non-championship Mexican Grand Prix - his home race - Ricardo drove Rob Walker's Lotus instead and, trying to snatch back pole, he went into the Peraltada corner too fast, ran out of road on the exit and was killed.
