Mark Webber said Red Bull is in the best shape possible for the Turkish Grand Prix after he qualified second behind team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

Both Webber and Vettel opted to only do one run in the final part of qualifying, going out early and posting their lap times before watching the final attempts from inside the Red Bull garage. With Webber separated from fourth-placed Lewis Hamilton by just 0.015s he admitted it was a slightly nervy time watching on.

"Particularly for me it was a little bit more interesting," Webber said. "Obviously I would have liked to have had a couple more tenths to have the margin, obviously Seb did a very good lap for pole but mine wasn't too bad."

Webber said the team took the decision to conserve tyres prior to qualifying, and that having locked out the front row it meant it was in the best possible position for the race.

"We spoke about it before qualifying that tomorrow is going to be a pretty long race and every lap you can try to get back today might help you a little bit tomorrow. So it turns out we're in the best grid positions we can get, obviously the other way round here and there but generally then team did a great job so now we're in the best shape we could be if you like in terms of grid positions and in terms of tyres; you can't get through with any less tyres than that unless you are running scrubbed tyres all day but you're not going to qualify anywhere."
