The 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix will see the Sakhir circuit revert back to its usual layout after the track was lengthened from the usual 5.4 to 6.3 kilometres for this year's race.

With the new loop of eight corners having been installed in 2006 for endurance races, this year's season opener used the extended track to celebrate F1's 'diamond jubilee'.

But race organisers announced on Monday that next year's event would revert back to the original layout that first saw Formula One cars race there in 2004.

"The use of the extended "endurance track" was part of the celebrations which marked the diamond jubilee of the oldest and most prestigious racing series," read the statement. "It provided a unique opportunity to see the participating teams and drivers of the 24 strong grid navigate several new challenges and turns.

"The 2011 Formula 1™Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will therefore feature the original track layout, which has been used since Bahrain International Circuit's inaugural race in 2004 when the circuit was awarded the prestigious Best Organised Grand Prix Trophy."
