Profile
Formula One seemed a long way from George's ambitions during his lengthy spell racing sports cars in the US. However, at the age of 39, he found himself making his grand prix debut, for Shadow. This came in 1973 and he ran the whole season, peaking with third place second time out, at the Spanish Grand Prix. At the end of the year he returned to the US scene, racing again in the CanAm sports car series and then winning the 1976 TransAm title in a Porsche.
