Paddy Driver's real success came on bikes, where he was a regular on the GP circuit between 1958 and 1965, finishing third in the 500cc championship in his last season. But he was at the same time racing cars, finishing seventh in the non-championship F1 grand prix at Kyalami. His two Formula One championship drives came in his home of South Africa but were separated by a decade. In 1964 he failed to qualify after rolling his Lotus in practice; ten years later, again in a Lotus, he was forced out of the race with clutch failure after six laps.
