Profile
The son of a Mercedes car dealer, Mike Taylor was an up-and-coming driver who was practising for what would have been his second Formula One championship race at Spa when the steering column on his Lotus broke - in the resulting crash he suffered serious injuries. He subsequently sued Lotus, reaching a substantial out-of-court settlement. He went on to run a property company which collapsed in 1977 with debts of several million pounds. In 1980 he married Stirling Moss's ex-wife Elaine Barberino.
