Bill Schindler raced in three grand prix, all at Indianapolis between 1950 and 1952 when the Indy 500 was a part of the F1 championship. He competed extensively in midgets and Champ Car and lost his leg in 1936 in an accident in Mineola. Despite his disability he held his own in the three Indy 500s he competed in the 1950s and finished a respectable 14th in the 1952 race. He died later that year in an accident during a sprint car race in Allentown Pennsylvania.
