Profile

Selling shares against your future earnings is a bold step, but it is one that Justin took to get his Formula One break with Minardi in 2003. Ever short of cash, he was not able to graduate to Formula Three in 1998, so went instead to Formula Palmer Audi and won the title. The prize put up by series mastermind and former racer Jonathan Palmer was a season in Formula 3000.

Fast from the off in this the top feeder category, he beat Mark Webber in a straight fight for the title in 2001. It was at this point that Justin faced a problem other than lack of cash as he tried to break into Formula One: his six-foot-three-inch frame was thought to be too tall.

However, Minardi took him on for 2003 and Justin wowed onlookers by overtaking eight cars on the opening lap of the first race in Australia. More feisty drives followed and Justin's break came when Antonio Pizzonia was dropped and he joined Jaguar for the final five races of the season. Sadly, three of these ended in retirement and he lost his ride to Christian Klien for 2004, since becoming a regular race winner in Champ Cars.
