Profile

Too many talented drivers from one country arriving at the top will spoil each other's chances. Thus Erik found himself competing with Jean Alesi and Eric Bernard. He won the 1986 French Formule Renault title, then suffered from being number two to Bernard in Formula Three. Thus, it was not until 1988, that he won the French title. Formula 3000 saw Erik partner Bernard again. He scored more points, but lost the title to Alesi by the smallest of margins. Yet again he stayed on for a repeat, winning the 1990 crown. Two years in Formula One with Ligier were his reward. He was in the points in Canada, France and Germany in 1992, then Erik had a huge shunt at Spa from which he was lucky to escape alive. Larrousse was his home for the next two years, but a trio of sixth places was his paltry reward. He has since earned good money racing sports cars in Japan, winning the GT title for Nissan in both 1998 and 1999.
