Felipe Massa revealed he was unhappy with his own performance during qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Despite qualifying in sixth place, Massa felt that mistakes he made prevented him from starting higher up. Ferrari's F2012 has been steadily improving all year and while Massa had previously struggled, he has now qualified in sixth place for two consecutive races. He explained that it wasn't a case of the starting position dissatisfying him, but more his personal performance.

"When you do a perfect lap it doesn't matter the position you're starting you're happy because you know that better than that is difficult to do," Massa said. "That was not my case today so that's why I'm not happy with myself because you always want the best from you and these little mistakes didn't help my starting position."

Going in to more detail, Massa explained the mistakes he made but said knowing there was the potential for a better performance gave him confidence.

"I am pleased with the progress made this weekend: starting from sixth is a positive result. However, I can't be happy with my last lap in Q3: in the second sector, I lost the rear end and that cost me a few tenths and that quite probably meant a few places on the grid. I'm very disappointed because I had the potential to do better than this sixth place.

"All things considered, I remain confident, because the whole team is moving forward which is very important for the rest of the season. Tomorrow, we will have to pay great attention when it comes to defining our strategy. I think the choice is restricted to just a one or a two stop, but a lot depends on tyre behaviour. We hope to make up some places and bring home a good result."
