Senna asks Williams for 'edgier' car in Barcelona

Bruno Senna is hoping Williams can make the FW34 a little more edgy at the upcoming tests after immediately feeling at home in the new car on his first day at Jerez.

Senna took over the William's cockpit from Pastor Maldonado on Thursday and notched up an impressive 125 laps. His best lap time was only good enough for eighth, but he is confident the Williams has plenty of potential.

"Any car comes out [at the first test] with strong points or weak points," he said. "But it's a nice car to drive, it's very docile, so definitely if we can get it a bit more edgy, without going over the edge, then it's going to be a much faster car."

He said one positive of the car is its traction, which is an area Williams struggled with last year.

"The traction is a good surprise, it's nice and easy on the rear tyres," Senna added. "That's a big change from the car we had last year with poor traction. It's a different concept for the rear end of the car, I think we need to still explore that and make it stronger, so that it's one of the strong features of this car."

But he said he would not go chasing times until he arrives at the second test at the Circuit de Catalunya, F1's favoured testing venue and the home to the Spanish Grand Prix.

"Barcelona is much more relatable to every other track on the championship," Senna said. "This is a very perculiar track, a bit like Paul Ricard, there are a few tracks where you go and if you set up your car perfect for that track you go slow everywhere else. So we are focusing on learning about the car here and in Barcelona the set-up work will be more relevant and that is what we are aiming for."
