Barrichello to test IndyCar
- Rubens Barrichello
It appears that Rubens Barrichello is going to drive an IndyCar in a two-day test next week.
Barrichello's Formula One career seems to be over after he lost his seat at Williams to Bruno Senna, leaving only one potential opening at HRT for 2012. Barrichello had previously said that if he was left without a drive: "I think at first I won't look for anything. Perhaps I'll just enjoy my family for a year. After that I believe my passion for speed will not allow me to stand still."
A drive in IndyCar seemed unlikely, however as Barrichello added: "For sure I will not race on the American ovals - I have promised that to my wife and I will honour that."
Despite those comments, after the Associated Press claimed that Barrichello will undertake a two-day "exploratory" test at Sebring next week for KV Racing - who also run his close friend Tony Kanaan - Barrichello tweeted a picture of himself having a seat fitting in Kanaan's car. It is possible that Barrichello could negotiate a deal to compete solely on road courses, with there being only three ovals on the 15-race schedule aside from the Indy 500.
Kanaan also appeared to confirm the news when he wrote on Twitter: "As we couldn't keep a secret anymore @rubarrichello will be testing for us. Very proud he can help @kvracing and myself with his feedback".
