- United States Grand Prix
Andretti to drive Circuit of the Americas
Mario Andretti will open the Circuit of the Americas with a demonstration run for Lotus during the official opening ceremony on Sunday.
Lotus will be running the R30 - its 2010 car under its previous guise as Renault - on the circuit throughout Sunday, with Andretti driving first to cut the ribbon. It's the first time Andretti will have driven a contemporary Formula One car since his retirement from the sport in 1982, and he will then hand the car over to actor Patrick Dempsey for his run.
Third driver Jerome d'Ambrosio will complete the final demonstration run in the R30, having raced for the team once this season at the Italian Grand Prix as a replacement for the suspended Romain Grosjean.
The official circuit opening takes place just four weeks before the Circuit of the Americas hosts its first United States Grand Prix. The race is now the only one in the United States in either 2012 or 2013 after the Grand Prix of America was postponed until at least 2014.
