  • While Red Bull has seen plenty of Felix da Costa in Formula One machinery at various Young Driver Tests, Kvyat only got his first taste at Silverstone this year driving for Toro Rosso but obviously impressed sufficiently as he finished his running just 1.6s off Jean-Eric Vergne after only 22 laps, albeit with a trip through the gravel for good measure.

Kvyat was announced as Daniel Ricciardo's replacement in October and will step up from GP3 having won this year's championship. Having only completed a handful of laps in Formula One machinery, Kvyat is still to obtain a Super Licence but will drive a two-year-old Toro Rosso later this week in order to complete the mandatory 300km in a Formula One car.

Speaking in Abu Dhabi team principal Franz Tost outlined how Toro Rosso will give Kvyat as much preparation time as possible ahead of his race debut next season.

"We will have a test with him next week to get the Super Licence," Tost said. "Afterwards, he will go out on Friday in America and in Sao Paulo and of course we will have winter time, where he has to do a lot of work with physical training, mental training, then working on the simulator to prepare him as good as possible for the next season. I'm convinced he will do a good job because he is a very high-skilled driver.

"For us, for Red Bull and for Toro Rosso, he is a very high-skilled driver and I think that he will have a successful future."
