Webber 'rapt' with special victory
Mark Webber said he was 'rapt' after winning the Spanish Grand Prix in dominant fashion on Sunday.
The Australian cruised to victory at the Circuit de Catalunya from Fernando Alonso and team-mate Sebastian vettel, who struggled with brake problems.
"It's special - I'm absolutely rapt, but it's still very early doors," said Webber afterwards. "We know there are some very competitive cars at the front, in particular Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, and with some pretty decent drivers as well."
Despite the dominant nature of his victory, Webber said that it would not be so easy in the races to come.
"There's a long, long way to go, so we're waiting to see how cars perform at different venues - cars are pretty sensitive at different tracks. There's a lot of things to see how it all shakes out over the next few months. You need to have a quick car and one that is always there for you."
Having started on pole, Webber withstood substantial pressure from Vettel at the start and admitted it was where the race was won.
"It was an important part of the race to get out of Turn 1 in the lead. It was quite tight into Turn 1, then I settled into a rhythm, looking after the tyres in the first stint.
"Then a clean pitstop, after which we had Lewis [Hamilton] behind, so we controlled the gap, needing to get the car home. When I saw that Lewis was in traffic I did some quick laps to open up the gap."
With victory, Webber moves to within seven points of Vettel in the drivers' championship but is still 17 points behind championship leader Jenson Button.
