Fernando Alonso says he needs to be "very, very lucky" to beat Sebastian Vettel in the drivers' championship after conceding another seven points to the German at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Alonso finished second to Vettel for the third consecutive race in Singapore and is now 60 points shy of the Red Bull driver in the standings. With the Ferrari still unable to match the Red Bull in qualifying and on race pace, he said only luck could save his title chances now.

"Sebastian keeps increasing the gap and we need to be realistic with that," he said. "We need to be lucky. We want to fight for the championship but we have a 60-point deficit and a one second performance deficit in the car. If you put those two things together we need to be very, very lucky. But if this luck comes they need to know that we will be there, because we will be in second to take the opportunities."

He said Ferrari had performed as well as he had hoped this weekend after moving from seventh on the grid to second at the end of the race.

"We did our job, which is maximise our car. We had two opportunities one was at the start when we recovered some places, and one was with strategy and we overtook Rosberg in the pits."
