Nico Hulkenberg admits the power to decide his future rests mainly with the teams rather than himself.

After another impressive season, Hulkenberg has been heavily linked with a move to Lotus to replace Kimi Raikkonen, but the team is delaying a decision on its 2014 driver line-up while it tries to finalise an external investment deal. While staying at Sauber looks unlikely, Hulkenberg has also been linked with a return to Force India and he admits the decision over his future is not his alone to make.

"I wouldn't like to wait until the end of the season, for sure," Hulkenberg said. "Obviously I said in Korea that before the end of the month I would like to know what I'm doing. It's coming close now so I have to hurry up; I'm under pressure now to do something! But these things take time sometimes, you're talking and negotiating and it's just the way that things go.

"It's always difficult to gauge [who has the final say]; I think it's more the teams which have the power."

Asked directly about a potential return to Force India, Hulkenberg replied: "It's difficult; you have to see the bigger picture. Next year there are obviously big regulation changes and there are a few opportunities, but there's no decision yet."

Hulkenberg also reiterated his hope that his next deal will see him remain with a team for more than one season.

"It would be nice for once to have a bit of consistency and to settle in somewhere, but it really depends on a lot of factors … Obviously performance is one of the big things, you want to be in a competitive car - which for next year is mostly impossible to know - but then also some stability, financial stability, security and also some perspective you have with the team going forward."
