Briatore in no rush to return to Formula One

Flavio Briatore has confirmed reports that he is in no rush to return to Formula One despite having his indefinite ban from motorsport overturned last week.

While the FIA has confirmed that Briatore-managed drivers like Mark Webber will be granted licences to race this year, it announced on Monday it would be contesting the court's decision to dismiss the ban. Until the appeal process is complete Briatore's ban from attending FIA events remains in place.

"F1 will be a long time without Briatore," he told an Italian TV station. "I have thanks for a democratic verdict where legality has been restored. I hope this is the first step towards a turnaround after years of dictatorship of the will of Max Mosley.

"Mosley likes to punish people. He has done it a lot in his private as well as his public life.

"For a long time I tried to contribute to Formula One. If we arrived at this situation it is because we created FOTA [the Formula One Teams' Association] and somebody lost their head."

Meanwhile, an Italian gossip column has linked Briatore to the position of president at the scandal-hit football club Juventus. He is currently the chairman of the English team QPR but, if the FIA's appeal is successful and his ban from motorsport is upheld, his position could be in jeopardy as he might not meet the requirements of the Football Association's "fit and proper persons" test.
