Renault technical director James Allison said the team is capable of scoring points in every race of the season after Robert Kubica finished just outside the top 10 in Bahrain.
Kubica qualified ninth and would have been on for a strong finish had he not spun after hitting Adrian Sutil's Force India. Team-mate Vitaly Petrov was also running well in 11th after the first lap but a mistake into turn 12 damaged his car's suspension and forced his retirement.
"We have a car that should be capable of bringing home points at every race," said Allison. "If we keep up the pressure on the development side, there's no reason why we shouldn't be doing that. Overall, I'm disappointed that we're going home empty handed because it's not a fair reward for the effort the team has put in over the last few months or the underlying competitiveness of our car.
"On the flip side, I'm pleased that we've met our initial performance expectations, which is the tricky bit. Our basic competitiveness could have put us sixth or seventh in qualifying, and that's a hugely better position than at the end of last year or at the beginning. It shows that we've made a proper step up with the car."
Team principal Eric Boullier was also of the opinion that the team will continue to improve although much hard work lies ahead.
"Overall, we can say that the R30 is a good basis to work from but we're under no illusion about the amount of work ahead of us if we want to catch the teams in front," he said. "The whole team has put in an incredible amount of effort during recent weeks, both at the factory and here at the track this weekend. The team spirit is strong and we're all motivated to keep on pushing to improve even more."
