Vettel unconcerned about missing first test
Sebastian Vettel is unconcerned by Red Bull's decision to skip the opening test at Valencia's Ricardo Tormo circuit on February 1.
Chief designer Adrian Newey told ESPNF1 it was his decision not to go and that the team would stand to make greater gains by developing the car in the wind tunnel rather than on the track. It did the same last year and team boss Christian Horner said it proved to be the right decision as running at the early European tests was marred by rain. Vettel, who eventually finished runner-up in last year's championship, agrees with the decision.
"Sure it's disappointing," he told Formula One's official website. "But we will have 12 days of testing for the new car, which is plenty of time. It's much better to spend time in the wind tunnel and on the design of the new car, so I am perfectly happy with this."
Vettel's ambitions for next season remain high as he hopes to go one better than in 2009.
"It's my target to win the championship as soon as possible," he added. "It is why I am here and, as always, I will give my best and fight until the very end. It's very difficult to predict anything before testing has even started, but after the first race in Bahrain we will know more. I want to be the best of all. 2009 was a good year for me, and now I am working very hard to make this new season even better."
Red Bull is expected to have its 2010 car, the RB6, running by the second pre-season test at Jerez.
