Red Bull unlikely to use F-duct in Canada
Red Bull looks set to postpone further use of its F-duct until the European Grand Prix in over three weeks time.
The system debuted on the RB6 at the Turkish Grand Prix but was only used in practice after Vettel reported he was "not getting the right effect". The drag-reducing device is expected to pay dividends on the long straights of Montreal next weekend, but Red Bull's advisor Helmut Marko has revealed the RB6's system needs more time.
"It did not work perfectly," he confirmed. "Therefore, we are developing it further. We will bring it again to Valencia."
There are also rumours that Red Bull had to change parts of its car in Turkey to conform to technical regulations. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport reports that parts of the rear suspension, hidden behind six burly Red Bull mechanics on the grid at recent grands prix, were aerodynamically shaped and at a 20 degree horizontal angle rather than the allowed five.
In response, Adrian Newey's design team reportedly shrouded the parts with round tubing in order to nullify the downforce-producing effect.
