Wolff set to join Mercedes
Toto Wolff is set to leave Williams to join Mercedes as its head of motorsport, according to a report in Germany.
Bild reported on Sunday that Williams executive director Wolff would move across to take up the position recently vacated by Norbert Haug at Mercedes, though his Formula One input is unclear after Niki Lauda took on a role on the Mercedes Formula One team's board.
Such a move would come as a surprise after Wolff took on a more hands-on role within the Williams team having become an executive director midway through 2012. Following that move Wolff told ESPN that that he was confident the team was moving forward and could target championships from 2014 onwards.
"The team has made a big step forward with the engine and with the new people coming on board - these new people have been barely there for one year - so the structure is starting to work perfectly," he said. "We're going to continue to hire aggressively and it's a matter of time to take the team forward."
The Reuters news agency said that both Mercedes and Williams declined to comment on the report on Sunday evening.
