Moss congratulates Mercedes on return to the top
Sir Stirling Moss has congratulated Mercedes on its return to the top step of a Formula One podium after Nico Rosberg dominated last weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.
Rosberg's victory was Mercedes' first win as a constructor in Formula One since Juan-Manuel Fangio and Piero Taruffi finished a comfortable one-two at the 1955 Italian Grand Prix. Moss, who retired from the 1955 race at Monza, also won for Mercedes that year at the British Grand Prix and is hoping Mercedes' most recent victory in Shanghai will lead to a new era of success.
"Times have changed so much since 1955, the biggest difference between then and now is that Mercedes won every race they entered in 1955, including sports car races, with exception of the Monaco Grand Prix," he said. "It would be wonderful to see Mercedes attain the same levels of dominance again."
Moss also hopes Michael Schumacher gets a chance to prove himself later in the season after a loose wheel brought an end to his race in China.
"Congratulations to Nico Rosberg, Mercedes-Benz and to Ross Brawn and his team on winning the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix," he said. "I am sorry that Michael could not demonstrate his return to form."
