Hamilton should stay at McLaren - Button
Hamilton's contract is set to expire at the end of the year and he has been linked with a move away from McLaren after another tricky season so far. Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, McLaren chairman Ron Dennis said he expected Hamilton to remain at the team and Button said it would make little sense for his team-mate to look elsewhere.
"It's best asking Lewis about it because he's the one moving or not - although, I don't know actually, I heard Ron saying some interesting comments this week," Button said. "But this place is like home to Lewis and he's been here since the start of his career and it's a massive change to go somewhere else. I've done it a couple of times and sometimes it's good for you to make that change but it doesn't seem, from my point of view, that it would be the right thing [for Hamilton to move]."
Asked whether Hamilton was the best team-mate he had ever come up against, Button added: "He is definitely the quickest team-mate I've had. I've raced with some pretty good team-mates, I've raced with two world champions now [Hamilton and Jacques Villeneuve], but they are quite different in their demeanour and the way they work with the team.
"But I think the last three years have been great. It's good to have a lot of competition, the days that you get beaten by your team-mate you just have to say congratulations because it was a great job and he did a better job than me. But the days you do beat your team-mate when he is that competitive, it does give you that extra smile after the race and that extra good feeling. So it is important to have a competitive team-mate."
