Romain Grosjean says that Kimi Raikkonen's experience has been giving him the advantage in races so far this season.

While Raikkonen sits fifth in the standings with 116 points, Grosjean is only on 76 despite out-qualifying his team-mate on eight occasions. While Grosjean acknowledges that Raikkonen has been getting the better of him in races, he says comparisons are unfair due to the fact he is in his first full season.

"It's true that in the races Kimi is in front, but we always forget that this is my first year," Grosjean said. "I have been making mistakes, this is why at the start of the season Kimi was 16 points ahead I think and now he's 40 points ahead, but if we give me back the 18 points at least from Valencia then the delta is less big.

"I think I made mistakes, I was not lucky a few times and that has been making the difference. But I'm still learning a lot of things, and I think now we are ready to get the second half of the season better than the first one."

When asked what helps him outperform Raikkonen in qualifying, Grosjean said it was too close to call but was focusing on maximising his own Saturday performance this weekend.

"It's very close most of the time, but I think I'm trying to do my best. Hopefully again we'll have a good qualy and if we're not on pole position then I can overtake the car in front of me!"
