Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo believes Felipe Massa has a "huge opportunity" to win the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, which he says would help the Brazilian's future.

Massa has struggled through a difficult season so far but showed signs of a return to form at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend and in Italy qualified third on the grid. Montezemolo is confident Ferrari has a strong car at Monza and, with Massa's future at the team still uncertain for 2013, the Ferrari boss has high expectations.

"We have a car in the second row and Felipe has a huge opportunity to win the race tomorrow, for him, for us and for his future. I know and you know how strong Fernando is in the race and I hope that tomorrow we can finish first. Look at Vettel, he was one second behind and was five places ahead of Alonso."

Fernando Alonso will start the race tenth after a rear anti-roll bar problem in qualifying severely limited his pace. Montezemolo said Alonso would have secured pole with ease had it not been for the problem.

"Of course I am extremely disappointed because this was one of the easiest situations in my career to get a pole position at Monza and my career started in 1973," Montezemolo said. "Alonso was absolutely the quickest, the car here is extremely competitive and that he has to start tenth instead of first is a big disappointed, particularly because this has happened after what happened in Spa when we lost all the points."
