Despite topping both practice sessions at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Friday, Lewis Hamilton is expecting a tough fight for pole position in qualifying.

Hamilton was fastest by 0.185s in second practice on Friday as he looks to score a good result following on from his retirement in Germany one week ago. However, he is expecting his rivals to show their true pace tomorrow and he said McLaren still has work to do.

"It's been a real positive day for me," Hamilton said. "I'm very happy and the guys did a fantastic job. We made some good changes with the car to get it dialled in and we're on the right path. We've still got work to do and we know that the Red Bull looks very quick, as does the Lotus and the Ferrari as well. We're by no means feeling comfortable and we're going to keep pushing."

Asked if he felt he could qualify on pole position on Saturday, Hamilton added: "I feel good in the car but practice is completely different to qualifying. Tomorrow when we get into qualifying I have no doubts that Fernando will all of a sudden find half a second and I have no doubt that the Red Bulls will find a chunk of time. In practice you just focus on whatever fuel load and programme you are on, but I think we're not in a bad position."

He said he was personally feeling in good form despite his run of disappointing races at the last three grand prix.

"I'm on it and I have to be on it," Hamilton added. "I feel like I've been on it all year and I feel a lot of support from the fans, I feel the car feeling great as it did at the last race and I'm all in one piece at the moment. I'm just focusing on trying to maximise every lap and every opportunity I get out there."
