McLaren team-boss Martin Whitmarsh left television viewers in no doubt what he thought about the legality of Red Bull's flexible front wing after Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber dominated qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Although the RB6 machine has passed the FIA's stringent scrutineering, Whitmarsh feels a clarification of the rules should be made.

"Overall, I think we're quickest of the fixed wing vehicles…that's how we feel at the moment, but obviously we're not trying hard enough in that area but we'll see," Whitmarsh told BBC Sport.

"The fact is all wings are flexible but when the regulations require the endplate to be 88 millimetres above the ground but they're touching the ground, then perhaps it's a little but too far- maybe it's time for a clarification about what's permissible here."
