  • August 15, 1982: Elio de Angelis, driving a JPS-Lotus won his first grand prix after a thrilling finish at the Austrian Grand Prix at the Österreichring, coming home by only five hundredths of a second from Keke Rosberg

  • Tambay wins for distraught Ferrari after Pironi crash
  • August 8, 1982: A season already under a pall following the deaths of Gilles Villeneuve and Ricardo Paletti became even grimmer when championship leader Didier Pironi crashed his Ferrari heavily in practice at Hockenheim and broke both his legs. Team-mate Patrick Tambay won the grand prix the following day but it was little consolation for the devastated Ferrari team
