Felipe Massa said he was unable to gauge Ferrari's pace in dry conditions at Hockenheim but he thinks the team will be quick if qualifying is wet.

FP1 took place on a dry track but two rain showers interrupted the session and saw drivers return to the pits while the track surface was slippery. Massa said that the disjointed nature of the morning meant he doesn't know how competitive Ferrari is in the dry but he felt comfortable on the intermediate and wet tyres in the second practice session.

"It was not easy, it was a difficult day," Massa said. "In the morning the track was dry but all the time we were on the track it would start to rain a bit, then it would stop and then you'd go out again when the track was drying again and then it would start raining. In the afternoon it was raining all the time, so it's difficult to have a clear idea how the car is in the dry. In the wet I think the car was pretty good, we were pretty competitive and all the time we were on track we were doing the quickest laps."

Massa also said that Ferrari had been unable to properly analyse the new parts it had brought to Germany due to the conditions.

"We try many different things in the car. We didn't drive so much on the track in the dry to be sure and to have a clear idea of how we are, but for sure we brought some new pieces and I hope it works. We don't know 100% if it works because we didn't get a normal day to understand each piece, so we'll wait and see what the conditions going to be tomorrow. If it's in the rain in qualifying many things change every minute and it's important to try and do the best we can."
