Paul di Resta will go in to the new season with his "sights set high" after an encouraging winter so far for Force India.
Following an impressive debut season di Resta has been confirmed as one of the race drivers for Force India in 2012 alongside Nico Hulkenberg. The team finished 2011 strongly and ended the year just four points behind Renault in the battle for fifth place in the constructors' championship, and the aim is to go one better this year. Di Resta told The Times that the car was looking promising, and that he would be looking to improve on the 27 points he scored last season.
"We're on target for what we need to achieve," di Resta said. "We've got our heads down: we just need to concentrate on our car's development and see where we are at the first test. From a personal standpoint, I think you always have to set yourself higher goals than you achieved the year before. Whether it's possible or not to achieve them, only the performance of the car will tell. But you definitely go in with your sights set high.
"Formula One is a ruthless business. Everyone can see how quickly things can turn around. It's not so long ago the Red Bull domination was nowhere, yet for the past two seasons they've been the team to beat."
Di Resta expects the 2012 season to go more smoothly for him, saying he's always noticed a difference between his first and second years in a category.
"For some reason, any class I've ever driven in, when I've come back for the second year it always just seems a little bit different and a bit easier. I don't know what the reason is: I guess you just grow and mature, and you understand where your strengths and weaknesses are. When I then come back, I find, generally, I'm able to improve. I suppose I'm keeping my fingers crossed it happens again this year, and everything runs just that little bit easier."
