Bianchi eyes 'important role' in 2012

Jules Bianchi says that he is looking "to play an important role in Formula One" in 2012 so that he is prepared for a race seat the following year.

Bianchi is Ferrari's test and reserve driver, and has been competing in GP2 for the last two seasons. With Felipe Massa's contract running out at the end of this year a seat could be available at Ferrari in 2013 and Bianchi has been linked with the now-vacant third driver seat at Force India. He admitted to RCM that he would need more experience if he wanted to make the most of any potential opening at Ferrari in the future.

"I will try to play an important role in Formula One (this year) in order to gather as much information and experience as I can and get a cockpit in 2013," Bianchi said. "The goal is to find a team that allows me the most mileage and (at the same time) I can still stay with Ferrari."

Despite being unable to match the performance of Romain Grosjean in GP2 last year - finishing 36 points behind the championship winner and claiming just one victory - Bianchi insists he is prepared to make the step up.

"I feel ready for F1 already in 2012, but I must stay on the ground. It's a little hard, but that's what Formula One is like. I will not give up and will try for a fresh start in 2013."

i'd be surprised & a bit disappointed if jules replaced felipe in 2013. to me, seats at ferrari should be given only to those who have proven their ability to win races in f1. that said, i think jules is solid & has ferrari potential.. he's just not ready yet.
