Pirelli would welcome Kubica test role
Paul Hembery says Pirelli would be happy to give Robert Kubica a test role in 2013 in order to help him return to Formula One.
Kubica has been out of the sport since his rally accident in 2011 and only returned to competitive rallying this month with victory in the Ronde Gomitolo di Lana Rally. Kubica himself has admitted that the rallies help him build up the functionality in his right hand and that he's not ready to drive a single seater car yet.
Pirelli uses the 2010 Renault for its testing programme - a car which Kubica raced - and the test driver role would also allow Kubica to become familiar with the Pirelli rubber which he has yet to use. Hembery said if Kubica was physically able to take up the role then he'd like to help him try to get back in to Formula One.
"We're more likely to work with Robert in rallying I guess rather than F1 at the moment," Hembery said. "But we'll see, I haven't spoken to Robert for some time but we are working on a few projects that might involve him. That might well be a possibility. I don't know if he's able to do it at the moment but it's that type of person; if physically he could get back in then maybe doing a year with us would put him in a good situation to come back in 2014 and that would be wonderful if we could do that.
"But we want to continue our success level of getting people in. It needs to be - after a Formula One drive - the best drive in the world because we get you in to Formula One. That's what we're trying to do and it was one of our objectives actually to try and do that."
