Senna scoops top awards at BAFTAs

The documentary Senna won two awards at the annual BAFTA's in London, taking the Best Documentary and Best Editing prizes.

"This film was made by all of us with love, and all we got back from it was love, and that deeply cynical word commerciality - which I never utter - was never even considered in this situation. We made this because we loved Ayrton, and you showed the love back," producer Eric Fellner said. "We need to thank Ayrton Senna for sadly living a too short life, but a life where his fact was even more amazing than fiction."

Screenwriter Manish Pandey said: "We'd just really wanted to thank the Senna family for trusting us with his legacy. When your son dies in circumstances like that, and you get a bunch of guys who turn up and say, 'listen, we want to tell the story, we think we're very sensitive, we think we will absolutely tell it right'. It takes a lot of guts to support people like that, and I'd like to thank them for doing that."

The evening's host, Stephen Fry, added: "Even if you know nothing about F1 racing and are not even vaguely interested in motorsport you will find Senna one of the greatest documentaries you've ever watched."

Anyone who hasn't seen this film yet, needs to. The best film of 2011 even to people who don't understand motor racing. My hero - Ayrton Senna!

It was the only time I have walked away from seeing a documentary feeling that I had just viewed a fully scripted drama; the editing plays out that well!

"I never knew there was a 'Best film made from youtube clips' category"...............you won't find hardly any of the material in this film on youtube! I love how this film is touching the hearts of Formula One fans and non-Formula One fans alike. Roll on the Nicki Lauda film!!!
