Robert Kubica has broken his right leg in a fall in Italy, the same leg he had broken in his rally accident last February.

Reports claim that Kubica slipped on an icy road close to his home in Pietrasanta and was taken to hospital in nearby Viareggio where x-rays showed that he had reopened the fracture in his right tibia sustained in last year's crash.

Kubica was out of contract after his Renault deal ran out at the end of December. He had informed the team in November that he would not be fit for the start of the 2012 season and had yet to test a his fitness in a car. At the time he said: "On a personal level, my recovery is still very encouraging and my doctors keep being impressed. I just need more time, as I want to be 100% ready before I commit to anything driving related."

Lotus team principal Eric Boullier offered his sympathy to Kubica via the Lotus Renault website: "Robert has shown fantastic courage and determination in his rehabilitation following the accident last year, and it is sad to hear that he has suffered this setback. On behalf of everyone at Lotus Renault GP, I would like to wish Robert a quick recovery"

On Wednesday Stefano Domenicali had distanced himself from rumours that Ferrari had approached Kubica, saying that the team would wait and see how his recovery went.

why these things have to happen for you.i hope it's not the end of his career.

Kubica is out for 2012, but not necessarily longer than that, Schumi recovered from a broken leg in 6 months which is the standard healing time. That said by the time he will finally be 100% fit again he would have been away from racing a long time, Ferrari will not be keen to sign him after how massa preformed after his accident. Anyhow he deserves a 2nd chance in the sport..pardon the expression but, Hey Kubica for 2013, break a leg..

This guy can't have a pillow fight without getting hurt.

Come on! Schumi said that it's all in the ... bottom. And Zanardi was driving with no leggs. U can do it !

Wow. It's really sad to see someone with so much talent have his career jeopardized by some poor luck. Hope he gets well soon and get back in a car somewhere.

Schumacher broke his leg and it was not game over. The guy will recover. Not this year obviously but next year for sure. I respect Renault for supporting him. We shall see what happens when he tests an f1 car. It might be for the best to rest his whole body for a year of good muscular rehabilitation.

You say its over for Robert because he broke his leg. If you all remember a few years ago Mark Webber broke his leg in November and was testing the new car in February. Sure Robert has a few more injuries than just his leg, but he if fit and determined and i believe we will see him on the F1 grid in years to come.

this is a biggest dissapointment after Juan Pablo Montoya 6 years a go. both of this drivers are in the same level with Alonso/Kimi & Seb/Lewis.
