Britain's Dean Stoneman dominated the half-hour qualifying session at Zolder to take his second pole position of the season for Saturday's Formula Two event in Belgium.

Stoneman, who won from pole in Marrakech last month, topped the timesheets for the duration of the half-hour session.

Such was his dominance, Stoneman was as much as seven tenths clear of the field before the mid-session change to new tyres. Local favourite Benjamin Bailly, who was quickest in the second practice session, reduced the gap to just over one tenth of a second before Stoneman clocked the fastest lap of the week to secure pole by a quarter of a second.

Bailly looked to have secured a front row spot but was displaced by a late charge from Kazim Vasiliauskas. The Belgian starts from third alongside Armaan Ebrahim.

"I feel great, to get my best result here at Zolder feels really good. I would prefer to be in first or second, but third is not bad," said Bailly, who lives just 50km south of the circuit. "I have driven only one time here with a road car. It was good to have the test on Tuesday, there's a lot of grip on the track and it's really good fun."

Championship leader Jolyon Palmer and Nicola de Marco will share the third row, ahead of Ivan Samarin in a season's best seventh.
