Adrian Newey rejects Ferrari overtures
Adrian Newey has rejected overtures to move to Ferrari, saying he remains "committed to Red Bull for the foreseeable future".
There had been speculation that Newey, who is Red Bull's chief technical officer, was being lined up by Ferrari to try to turn round its fortunes, with reports suggesting it was prepared to pay up to £20 million a year to bring him on board. Ferrari has not won a grand prix in over a year and are already a long way behind Mercedes in this year's constructors' championship even if they are a close third to Red Bull.
The rumour mill gathered pace last week when Newey said: "There's always rumours … what can I say? It's the silly season. We're all under contract, so at some point I've got to think about the future but my focus at the moment is trying to get back on top of those silver cars."
At the same time several newspapers carried suggestions that Newey, 55, was looking for one last challenge to crown a remarkable career which has included championships with Williams, McLaren and Red Bull.
