Daniel Ricciardo is sure Red Bull has a quick car underneath all the problems the team has suffered this year in testing.

On Friday, Red Bull cut another day of testing short when it discovered a new mechanical issue with the RB10. It is the latest in a long list of problems for the new car, but Ricciardo believes there is underlying potential to tap into once the season starts.

"We are staying confident and optimistic," he said. "I think the design of the car - we don't know how quick we are yet because we haven't put in any banker laps - but I have full confidence in how the car has been built and I'm sure it will be quick once we get up to speed. Although it doesn't look like we've made massive progress, we definitely have. We need to make more though."

Asked what would happen if the team did not solve its problems ahead of Australia, Ricciardo added: "I shouldn't say it, but even if the first four or five races didn't go to plan and then we go and win the next 10 the who cares? Obviously we want everything to be running well in Melbourne and we will stay optimistic until after the race and then see what the result brings."
