Mercedes open to giving Massa DTM chance
Mercedes would consider Felipe Massa for a DTM drive if he wanted to move to the German racing series next year.
Massa will be replaced by Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari next year, leaving him without a drive for the 2014 season. The Brazilian is in talks with Lotus and at least one other team, but admits he may have to look at other racing series.
"I still believe I can do a lot in F1, but if not maybe DTM," he said. "It would be interesting to race in that, but I would like to have a good opportunity to be competitive. If it's too late to get that in DTM maybe I would wait one year."
Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff said he would be open to considering Massa for an DTM drive.
"Somebody like Felipe can always be an asset for DTM or for any other racing series," he said. "Definitely he is an interesting guy and we must consider him."
Massa has made clear he only wants to continue in F1 if he can secure a competitive drive.
"I want a chance to at least be competitive, to fight, so I will not get on my knees and beg to be in Formula One," he said. "I want to have an option that can give me some pleasure to be in Formula One.
"I've done a long career, I'm still young, but I've been involved since 20, and although I don't have a championship, I've achieved a lot more than I thought I would when I was a kid. I don't want to carry on here just to be in the picture, I want to carry on to finish my career in the best possible way. Otherwise it's time to finish."
